Apply the KISS principle.
March 25th, 2007
When I first started this blog, like most bloggers out there, I have great plans for this blog, I wanted to do interview, review, videos, etc. And much Much more. Slowly and gradually, the readership for my blog started to increase, but after a couple of month, things just stand the same even though I was blogging more then ever.
But I’m just not getting the traffic, I would like to get. Then it strike me that I forget to KISS! Instead of staying focus and being really REALLY good at one thing, I am trying to everything on this blog. Obviously this is not working, I’m sending all sort of signals to the visitors to my blog. Soon instead of sending signals, I’m becoming noise, before I knew it, they became confused at what I’m writing about and start leaving my blog.
Now I trying to Keep It Simple, Stupid! I no longer try to do everything here, I just wrote about technology and blogging here. For all my other interests, I’m starting separate blogs for it all.
If you still dun quite get what I mean, think Woot. Woot like most online store and community out on the Internet selling cool stuff cheap. But what’s special about Woot is that it sell one item per day only, and nothing more.
Or think Twitter perhaps. Instead of spending the time to get the whole email newsletter thingy or mailing setup, Twitter allow users to send updates to subscribers or public in a jiffy! Yet another surprisingly simple concept right? (this is my twitter, add me too)
And yet both ‘projects’ are very successful online, so now maybe you want to re-evaluate your website. Are you trying to do too many things? And in mist of it, instead of sending the right signals to your customers, you are creating noise/spam instead.
