In early April 07, I went for my first reservist training, actually I quite enjoyed it. It is a good break from work, the only thing that bother me is the IPPT test, and that’s because it’s been quite for a while since I last exercised and I hate remedial training. (very embarrassing) This time I got Silver award for my IPPT, the truth is that I have a couple of ’secret’ training methods to keep me in shape. Secret Number One - Use the Bodyrev Perfect Pushup. If you are heavy, as in more than 65 kgs, and if you did not train your arms often, chin-ups will definitely be a problem, so to keep me in shape I do plenty of push up with this gadget.

Secret Number Two - Do plenty of heel raise and leg raise. If you dun keep a ’spare’, sit-up should not be a problem, but just in case, do leg raise after you go for your jog, it helps to burn a couple of min cm off your waist. Heel raise much like tip toe is to make sure you can pass your standing board jump. Do sets of 20 and take a 15 sec break, you should really feel a strain in your legs when doing this, in order for it to be effectively. You are working to looser the legs muscles, and before you got the test, a couple of tuck jumps will help too.

Secret Number Three - Train your mind. The 2.4 km run is one killer station, and most of the time, people failed is because they stop halfway and walk in the run. So it is important that in addition to your regular jogging, you train your mind too. That’s to say that you imagine you are running in your mind, each and every step, see how soon before you loose focus. Do it often enough you should be able to imagine yourself completing the run. Now you have a fit mind to go for the run.

If you keep to this 3 ‘not-a-secret’ secrets regularly, you should be able to pass your IPPT with a Silver at least. Well, that’s how I got mine. But honestly speaking, there’s no shortcut to a health body, you have to train regularly.
