Sometime back after I wrote about ‘Getting the first sale is the hardest‘, Jana Eggers - the CEO of Spreadshirt generously dropped a couple of comments in the post on some of the things I can work on for my SpreadShirt store.
Take to her advice - To give the store a custom look. Here’s what I did.
- Install a banner/logo for my store. - This will be my link to the homepage for my visitors.
- Pick and choose a nice color scheme for my store. - Hopefully I did not do too badly here.
- Look around for inspiration for my store design. - As I’m not the designer type of guy, I definitely need to look for inspiration. Here’s where I google ‘CSS Gallery’, there’s loads of beautifully done websites done by real designers.
After a couple of hours of fine-tunning here and there, my SpreadShirt store has a brand new look! What do you think it?
Alright, back to work on the rest of her comments.

It’s been a few months since I started my first online store selling t-shirts, but till to date, I still have yet to get any sale from it. In my case, the number one problem is getting online traffic to my online store.
Every month there’s less than 1000 page views per month, with such low incoming traffic, it’s just not possible to generate any sales from the online store. So my number priority now is to generate at less 5000 clicks per month to my online store.
Here’s what I gather I will do to help bring in other clicks.
- Advertise at Craigslist.
- Join Groups.
- Start selling on eBay.
- Add my website to my email signature.
- Maybe do a couple of press release.
- Start a blog focusing on SpreadShirt.
- Join forum.
These are the ideas I got, anyone have got better ideas to bring in those sales or clicks? Alright, I will start work on the email signature right now. More posts to come in the coming weeks.

This is a 5 steps guide to setup your own online store selling t-shirts with no money down! Just a little creativity and Photoshop skills required.
- Decide on the type of t-shirts you will be selling. - Determine your area of interest, whether it’s going to be graphical or just fonts-liked designs.
- Sign up an account with either SpreadShirt or CafePress. - These folks will handle the printing and shipping of items to your customers for you.
- Spend some time picking up Photoshop. - This is the tool you use to make your design, whether it’s an illustration or graphics, this tool can help you make your design stand out!
- Customize your store. - Once you have all your designs ready, upload it and customize your store a little. The key is to make it stand out with its own identity.
- Promote your store. - Now that you have your store all ready, you can start to promote your store online through postings in groups, forums, classified, etc.
At the end of the day, have your own online store with NO MONEY DOWN like me! I setup my own store the same way too, and if I can do it you can do it too.
But if design is not your cup of tea, try submitting your t-shirts idea! It work just as well too.
